Fall is always an exciting time for motorcycle lovers. The changing leaves mixed with warm days and cool evenings make for some amazing rides. Fall is also when the new models for the upcoming year are released.

BMW has a history of bringing out new motorcycles on a fairly regular basis. Since 2010 there has been the S1000RR, the K1600GT, the S1000R, the C650GT and C600S, and most recently the S1000XR. (If you are wondering why the current R9T is not on the list…. It was originally released in the 1980’s.) These are all great bikes, but this fall BMW is unveiling a bike unlike any they have made before.

One of the reasons I began writing this blog was to inform you about new BMW models.

I am very happy to be able to do that today!

The BMW G310R is the first of a new family of bikes that should dominate the under 500cc class in the years to come. The heart of this new compact bike is a water cooled 310cc single cylinder engine. It produces 34 horsepower and meets strict EU4 exhaust emission standards. A 30.9” seat height gives the rider a very comfortable riding position with a commanding view of the road. Engine placement provides a forward leaning center of gravity. Combine this with an extra-long swing arm and you have a bike that handles beautifully and gives the rider a solid feel for the road.

Putting the power to the road is accomplished with a compact six speed gearbox and an internal multi-plate wet clutch. Final drive is via chain.

Color choices for the first year will be Cosmic Black, Strato Blue Metallic, and Pearl White Metallic. Beautiful looking bikes one and all. A range of accessories are already planned for the bike. These include a low seat and a comfort high seat, luggage rack, two different sized top cases, heated grips and a center stand.

So far the G310R is the only model of the family that has been announced, but one can only imagine that a GT or GS model has got to be possible.

Retail price or shipping dates for the G310R have not yet been released. However, as soon as we get the information I will let you know so you can stop on in and see them for yourself!
